Many oral diseases are caused by overbites. There are numerous solutions to this orthodontic issue, including transparent Invisalign. But can your overbite be fixed with Invisalign? Correcting overbites is a common reason people use aligners. If you have an overbite, it means your upper teeth extend too far past your lower teeth.
Invisalign is often questioned about whether it can correct overbites, and most people have concerns about it. Since it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1998, Invisalign has become increasingly popular as an alternative to metal braces. It is a relatively new treatment option, and many individuals are interested in learning exactly how it functions to correct an overbite.
Invisalign has been shown in studies to be effective at correcting mild to moderate overbites. Approximately 2.5 million patients are being treated with Invisalign, which is available in over 45 countries. Invisalign’s invisibility and the elimination of heavy equipment are its key selling features. It is not fully invisible but significantly less noticeable in the mouth than traditional braces, and many people also find it to be more convenient and painless.
Custom-made, removable, transparent plastic trays known as Invisalign aligners are used in this treatment by an orthodontist. These trays need to be worn on teeth for a minimum of 20 to 22 hours each day. The majority of the day is spent with transparent plastic trays in the mouth, which can be removed while eating or drinking. Depending on the patient’s situation, fresh trays are replaced with the old ones weekly or biweekly. Every tray is slightly different from the previous ones.
The orthodontist changes the trays by gradually increasing the pressure on the teeth. As the procedure goes on, the pressure progressively builds up, altering the bite over time and realigning the teeth.
The oral condition, the extent of the overbite, and the amount of time necessary to achieve realignment can influence the time required for Invisalign to function. Patients can expect to wear their Invisalign for six months to two years. It will probably increase if the Invisalign is removed for more than two hours each day. They can only be removed for meals and toothbrushing and must be worn at night. The patient will be wearing a retainer once the Invisalign treatment is finished to keep the teeth in their new, right position.
With the help of the retainer, the jawbone has sufficient time to grow back the skeletal structure that supports the teeth. Teeth could shift back to their previous position if not kept aligned with a retainer. The time duration and the number of hours a day a patient needs to wear a retainer will be decided by an orthodontist.
